FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We know choosing a school is a big decision. Whether you're a first-time parent or you've done this before, we want to make the process as simple and reassuring as possible. Here are answers to the most common questions we hear. If you don’t see your question here, just reach out! We’re happy to help.

Enrollment and Tuition

HOW DO I GET MY CHILD INTO THE PROGRAM?

Because we serve a military community, there's consistent movement throughout the year. The best way to secure a spot is to join our waitlist. Openings come up regularly, and being on the list ensures we can contact you as soon as space becomes available.
HOW MUCH IS TUITION?
Tuition varies depending on the program your child is enrolled in. We offer full-day, half-day, Early Care, Aftercare, and Drop-In Care options. You can find detailed tuition rates here. Tuition is charged as an annual fee and divided into equal monthly installments: 10 months for Tree Rooms, Explorers and Inde Elementary programs, and 12 months for our Flower Rooms.
DO YOU OFFER ANY DISCOUNTS?
Yes. We offer a 5% military discount, a 5% sibling discount, and an employee discount. These cannot be combined and only apply to tuition, not to aftercare or any additional fees. We also accept Child Care Aware for families who qualify.
CAN CHILDREN ENROLL MID-YEAR?

Yes. We welcome new students throughout the year as space allows.
WHAT PAPERWORK DO I NEED TO SUBMIT?
Once your child is accepted, we’ll send over a Policies and Student Handbook form, along with a Welcome Form for allergy and permission details. Within 30 days of starting, we’ll also need a current physical and either immunization records or an exemption form.

Daily Life at School

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?

Clothes that can get messy and shoes that can keep up. We spend a lot of time outside exploring, painting, digging, and running. All children should have appropriate gear for the weather to include rain boots, rain coat and any layers needed.
WHAT SHOULD I PACK FOR LUNCH?

We encourage well-balanced, whole food lunches that are low in sugar and rich in protein. Please pack everything in reusable containers to help us reduce waste. Each classroom has a refrigerator for storing lunches and snacks.
DO I NEED TO PACK A SNACK TOO?

Yes. Please pack a morning snack and lunch, and if your child stays past 3 p.m., include an afternoon snack as well.
WILL MY CHILD NAP?

Children under five are offered rest time after lunch. Some fall asleep and others just relax with quiet activities. We provide a nap mat, and you’re welcome to send a small blanket or lovey if it helps your child feel cozy.
WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS A TOUGH DROP-OFF?

Totally normal, especially in the early weeks. Our teachers are gentle, reassuring, and trained in emotional support techniques. A quick, confident goodbye from you helps your child build trust and confidence. We’ve got them, and you.
WHAT IF WE'RE RUNNING LATE?

Appointments and emergencies happen! Give us a quick call or send a ClassDojo message so we know you're on the way. If you’re going to be later than 9:00am please know the classroom routine has started and we will not accept students unless a phone call or message was received prior to 9:00am. We do not accept students after 10:30am.

Communication and Community

CAN I FOLLOW ALONG WITH WHAT MY CHILD IS DOING AT SCHOOL?
Yes. We use ClassDojo to share updates, photos, and classroom highlights. You'll also get monthly newsletters from your child’s teacher. Just know that our teachers are fully present during the day, so updates usually come during nap time or after school. Real-time isn’t our thing…we’re focused on being in the moment with your children.
HOW CAN I COMMUNICATE WITH MY CHILD'S TEACHER?
You can talk with teachers at drop-off and pick-up, send messages on ClassDojo, or reach out by email. If you need immediate communication, please call the office 919-343-3004. We value open communication and love partnering with parents.
CAN I VISIT THE CLASSROOM OR VOLUNTEER?
Absolutely. We want you involved! Remember the whole, “it takes a village” thing? Whether you want to read a story, help with a special project, or join a nature walk, just coordinate with your child’s teacher. We love having you here!
HOW DO BIRTHDAYS WORK AT SCHOOL?
We love celebrating birthdays! You're welcome to bring in a small treat (low-sugar is appreciated), and some parents like to read a favorite story or share a family tradition. Just check with the teacher ahead of time so we can make it special.

Payments and Policies

HOW DO I PAY TUITION?

Invoices go out monthly through QuickBooks on the first of each month. You can pay by ACH transfer, debit or credit card, or check. Tuition is considered late on the 7th of each month.
WHAT IS YOUR DISCIPLINE PHILOSOPHY?

We use Conscious Discipline, which focuses on emotional awareness, connection, respectful boundaries, and problem solving. It’s about helping kids learn self-regulation, not just managing behavior. You can read more about it in our Student Handbook.

Safety and Staff

WHAT SAFETY MEASURES ARE IN PLACE?

The front door remains locked at all times and parents use a secure app for access. We also have security cameras monitoring the building’s exterior and the surrounding grounds. Please use your app to access the building, rather than ringing the doorbell; it helps keep our community safe.
HOW ARE STAFF TRAINED AND QUALIFIED?

All staff members complete background checks through the NC Department of Health and Human Services, along with additional background checks and reference check screenings we run in house as an extra measure of security. Everyone is CPR certified and completes at least 13 hours of annual training in health, safety, and Conscious Discipline. Lead teachers hold at least an EDU 119 credential and all teachers continue training in Montessori and Reggio-inspired approaches throughout the year. We provide on-going training for all staff through tailored mentoring, courses and books.
